This should be an exciting opportunity for a communications, journalism or public relations graduate or an individual with relevant experience wanting to make a career change in to nonprofit and development sectors.

The intern will work closely with the Communications Manager and the Head of Programs Development to help roll out a new communications strategy and assist in Online Fundraising efforts.

We aim to help broaden the experience and portfolio of the successful intern and so will expect the successful candidate to take on a variety of responsibilities including managing Tech Tribes’ social media and website content, drafting press releases, working with the media and monitoring the web for news relevant to Tech Tribes’ work.



MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Researching the latest Information Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D) tools, innovation news, local/regional international events and open-calls to funding opportunities;

  • Drafting and producing case studies on how ICTs help in social development and humanitarian response;

  • Interviewing organizations/ individuals pioneering technology for social good;

  • Editorial planning and implementation for @TechTribesOrg Facebook/Twitter/Instagram accounts;

  • Using @TechTribesOrg various social media accounts by leveraging media tools already available such as Hootsuite and Social Backers;

  • Updating techtribes.org website, specifically the resources, ICT4D case studies and blog pages;

  • Pulling media lists, researching journalists, monitoring like-minded organization’s media products and other support functions;

  • Helping produce media clippings and conduct online presence analytics of @TechTribesOrg social media platforms and the techtribes.org website;

  • Writing, proofreading, and copy-editing newsletter articles, blog posts, press releases, and web content;

  • Any other tasks requested by the media and programs development teams.




Specialized Knowledge/ Experience Required

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Arabic and/or English;

  • Knowledge of writing for the web;

  • Knowledge of computer systems and applications. Knowledge of and experience in using content management systems such as WordPress is an added advantage;

  • Knowledge of standard MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and a website CMS (such as WordPress, though in-depth training will be given). Some knowledge of HTML is an advantage;

  • Knowledge/experience/interest in social media, specifically Facebook/Twitter/Instagram and how to use them as a media engagement tools;

  • Good judgment, initiative, high sense of responsibility, tact and discretion;

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize;

  • Ability to quickly understand instructions, asks for clarification when needed, adapt and work independently to produce results on time;

  • Strong interpersonal skills.




Salary/Payment

Tech Tribes will not pay for services as an Intern and all the expenses connected with these services must be borne by her/him. There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship. Although overseas applicants are welcome to apply, Tech Tribes is not responsible for obtaining any necessary visas.



QUALIFICATIONS



  • Enrolled in a degree programme in a Communications, Integrated Marketing, Digital Media, English, Journalism, Innovation or Information Technology related discipline, preferably with a focus on communications management or knowledge management;

  • Proficient in Arabic and/or English. Other languages such as French or Spanish an asset.
