Although commonly mistaken with Crowdsourcing, Mapping carries a specific goal.
Mapping helps development practitioners map out communities, assets or even neighborhoods that are hard to reach because of distance or sometimes due to security measures.
While crowdsourcing traditionally focuses on engaging an online community through different online outreach tactics, mapping can happen on different stages both online and offline. For example, mapping out a neighborhood requires training a group of volunteers on the approach and then on the use of the technology to input the data gathered offline.
